I will be camping this weekend. Click on this link and weep for your city-bound lives!
My friendly posting bot, Mitch, will be posting some updates to Loss of Innocence while I’m out. Check back over the weekend; I think at least two more updates are queued up. These updates will close out the last of Chapter Two (Collins’ tenure in NCO school), and start getting to the meat of the action in Chapter Three (which I know you’ve all been waiting for).
In other news, I hope everyone takes a moment to remember Armistice Day. This was the official end of the fighting in World War I, and also the day that we in the United States choose to remember as Veteran’s Day. Please take a moment to reflect on the price of our freedom (both in money and lives). Whether you agree with our current troop deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, we have a duty and a responsibility as citizens of this country to pay our respect to the ones who are placing themselves between “their loved homes and war’s desolation.” Remember those (both alive and dead) who have paid the price so that we may relax in comfort and ease.
I’ve been asked by several people to formulate some thoughts on the power shift in our legislature. I have to say that I’m not terribly surprised, given the terrible job that the GOP has done in image branding our President. And even though I would say that I lean right of center on three-quarters of the issues that face America today, I’m not terribly disappointed to see this change in power. It is my sincere hope that the Patriot Act will finally die. I hope that the censorship being practiced by the FCC in the name of decency will fall in line with the First Amendment. I hope that a lot of the digital rights management (DRM) nonsense that has transpired over the past several years will be seen as the invasion of consumer privacy that it truly is. Perhaps that’s just wishful thinking.
Please remember to keep the comments flowing. I become better by listening to criticism and suggestions by readers, so if you have a thought, email me or comment in the space after my posts.
