The baby celebrates his second month of life today. It seems like time has flown faster than I could have possibly imagined. All of the milestones are slipping rapidly away–his first social smile, his talkative nature (lots of cooing and ah’ing), his rapidly improving vision. It is both a joy and a trial to see him develop so quickly. Tomorrow will be the two month doctor visit, so he’ll have his first experience with shots. I hope the little guy remains calm during the ordeal.
I’m continuing the Wild Cards series, as well as starting the closing book in Scalzi’s Old Man’s War universe (The Last Colony). My disenchantment with Wild Cards continues into the third book, so I doubt I continue the series much past that unless I’m hard-up for something to read. However, the opening chapters of Scalzi’s The Last Colony are a promise of great things to come. I have high hopes for the close of the trilogy, and I anticipate being done with the book by the weekend.
The podcast for this week (to be published in the morning) features absolutely incredible vocal work by Kate. I was conned into doing the voice of one of the characters, and I’m sad to say that I have nowhere near the raw vocal talent or the voice-acting ability that my reading partner does. I ask that you grit your teeth through my parts and enjoy the story. The theme is one of my favorites, and it sort of resonates with the situation that the United States finds itself in right now.
I’ve been on a bit of a movie kick lately. I’ve just finished re-watching the latest 007 movie (Casino Royale) on DVD and I found it to be as enjoyable on the home theater as it was at the box office. I’ve also been trying to keep up with the movies that are coming out this summer (a summer movie guide may be forthcoming), but at a rough estimate, there are no less than eight movies this summer that are a must-see: Spiderman 3, Pirates of the Caribbean, Ocean’s 13, the new Die Hard movie, Transformers, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, the Borne Ultimatum, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It’s the best summer for movies in recent memory.

Ha ha! Christie and I worked out a system on our very first shots visit. She went out of the room to cry while I pinned the little bugger to the table, looking him in the eyes and talking to him, while the doctor did the jabbing out of baby’s sight. The screaming and flailing of the little creature beneath my chest did nothing to my emotional psyche. However, he didn’t want anything to do with me for about 3 days afterward and clung to mama for dear life whenever I walked by. After a couple days, he came to realize that I was not in the business of doing that again, and all returned to normal until the next shot day.
