The little guy has had the coxsackie virus over the past week, which is better known as hand-foot-mouth disease. It’s common among daycares.
Unfortunately for me, I have an immune system that acts less like a barrier and more like a magnet, so I have something that is generally flu-like now. I have body aches, a persistent fever, some dizziness, and headache. If I plug these symptoms in to WebMD, as well as being exposed to this virus that the little guy had, then I end up with a diagnosis for meningitis, which isn’t terribly fun. I have to say that if I had meningitis, I would be in worse shape than I am. Likewise, if the virus that the little guy had was the variant that caused meningitis, he should be in a lot worse shape than he is, too.
So damn WebMD for catering to my paranoia. Ignorance can be bliss, sometimes.
Of course, the solution is to go sit in a doc-in-the-box or an ER for several hours to make sure I’m clear, but my experience with each of those (remind me to relate the story of my appendectomy one time) has made me wary of their diagnostic ability and the level of care.
So as long as I don’t have seizures (God forbid), I’m going to treat the symptoms–fever and body aches can be resolved with Tylenol, plenty of fluids will keep me hydrated, and plenty of rest should see me fit as a fiddle. The rest thing is kind of nice. The past two nights I’ve slept twelve hours straight.

Not to mention, the only true way to diagnose meningitis is a spinal tap, which needless to say is very unpleasant.
I would treat your symptoms as they appear as well, but the usual tell tale sign of meningitis is a very stiff neck. I.e. you are unable to move your head in either direction.
Regardless, I hope you and the little one feel better soon.
I can say from experience, that you do NOT want to have a spinal tap. Also, I had the lesser form of menengitis, I believe it was viral? and I intially felt like I had the flu. Next thing I knew, I was in the hospital for a day or two.
