It posts; Windows Vista installed without a hitch (although it gave me no information or status about what is was doing and how long it would take). Driver installs were also somewhat slow and cludgy, but once I got the drivers configured, Vista flies pretty nicely.
Two items: 3dMark06 needs DX9 components to work properly. I’m researching whether or not I can add these safely to Vista without hosing myself. The other is that upon install, Vista did a few updates automatically. It didn’t ask me if I wanted them, it just performed them. This was at the same time I was trying to install the drivers for my motherboard, which wasn’t the greatest timing in the world.
Other than that, Vista seems to be pretty nice. Cosmetically, it’s better than OS X, and the Aero interface is just plain cool. I haven’t had the chance to put any games on it yet and put it through its paces yet, but I’ve had not one lock up. Everything has been pretty stable thus far.
We’ll talk more about it tomorrow when I get some more time on the machine!

I remember that the Vista install on my machine took a bit due to the graphics card not displaying the install screens properly. Also, I wish that the Windows devs would give you two options when the disc boots up. One option that says “1. Just install Windows for me.” and another that says “2. I am technically adept, let me choose options during install.” so that you wouldn’t have to worry about Windows updating while trying to take care of other stuff. Microsoft is designing their stuff so that non tech people can install an OS. The downside to this is that now my brother in law could do a Vista install and brag to his friends that IT work is super easy to do.
Either way, grats on the build. If you have two monitors you’ll find that the sidebar widgets are nice to have off to the side on one. I can see my widget clock while playing COD:4 and know I only have enough time to make 2 more suicide runs before I have to go to bed.
