I will be leaving for Alaska on Friday.
That’s right, folks. I’m traveling with my father and father-in-law (I bet you all wish you had a family where you could do THAT) to the last frontier in the US. We have a full itinerary of fishing, hiking, sight-seeing, and gold panning. We’ve rented an RV to travel in style. Unfortunately for us, I’m the only one who can cook, so I’m the designated kitchen bitch. (That’s not true; my father actually makes a pretty mean breakfast. That’s a good thing, since I don’t intend to get up before 9 AM. It is vacation, after all.)
The highlight of the trip will likely be a visit to Denali National Park.
I’ve been asked to do a “ride report” or “travel blog” while I’m there. I will have my laptop and a spiffy DSLR camera to document the travels, but it’ll depend on my intarweebs access whether or not I can actually post. In the interim, Kate will be filling in with her own witty posts (hopefully everyone saw the post on ASIMO yesterday).

Now that is sweet Pete. Trip of a lifetime imo. Have fun!
I know something that can keep you warm Pete… remember my Rotel Hell creation (that you aptly dubbed “phase shift mule kick”)? Would you like the recipe, or is it too dangerous for Alaska’s pristine domain?
I can wait to see the pix of ‘Rampaging Moose’ or ‘Grizzly Bear eats RV Tire!’
Rotel Hell… mmmmm…..
At least in Alaska you don’t have to worry about any alergies…
Recipe! Now!
Um, you have to deal with some allergies. Birch pollen gets lots of people this time of year.
Let me know if you’re in the vicinity of Fairbanks, I could meet y’all for a drink and we can both praise Kate and the interesting nature of villains.
I have sent you the recipe… if others want it, I can post it as well.
Oh, I like that Tania. Make sure to light a candle in my absence and drink a few!
Tania,
We’ll be in Anchorage, Kenai, and Denali at least. My father-in-law was stationed up there while he was a surgical nurse in the Air Force, so he’s my designated tour guide. If we head up to Fairbanks, I’ll twitter you or send you an email.
Hey Pete! Have a great time in Alaska! I went to Anchorage for two weeks in July of 1967. We visited my mother-in-law whose husband was an engineer for FAA. We fished for salmon in a stream near their house and brought it back in dry ice to enjoy in Oklahoma. Wonderful flavor! We saw all the earthquake damage from March of 1964 in Anchorage and Hope. It was amazing. Went to Whittier by train and panned for gold. Beautiful and pristine country. You just know you’re not in the lower 48 anymore. Was surprised to see they sold liquor in bookstores, as well as grocery stores, etc. They had lots of topless go-go clubs at that time. Pretty wild place. Hard to sleep with 24 hour light but you get used to it about the time you go home! Enjoy and don’t be scared of the stuffed grizzley bear in the airport!
