I’ve been through both of my one-on-one critiques as well as the group critique. One of the one-on-one’s sung my praises and paid the highest compliment that a novel fragment could get: “I want more!” The group critique was a little more of a rape and pillage, with only one person really liking the character (I chose the bad guy from my novel Alchemist). My second one-on-one critique pointed out some heretofore unnoticed flaws in my characterization that I should address quickly.
The workshop has been helpful so far, although a couple of the lecture sections have been a little weak on content. What is nice is the environment in which writers come together to discuss the craft. I’m reaping the benefits of this in several ways.
The bad news is that I picked up some kind of bug from either my last week at work or on the flight over, so I’m fighting headaches/stomach malady in the midst of all this. Perhaps it’s a vestige of my anxiety, since I’m dealing with so much new stuff and change all at once.
I have several writing assignments due on Thursday, so don’t expect any updates. I’ll see if I can get Kate to put something interesting up for you guys to peruse in the meantime.
What a surprise you caught a bug *GASP* omg what no never not Pete! Hope you feel better fella.
It would seem that this trip, despite the bug issue, has been worth your while… encouragement, constructive critique, and camaraderie. Waves of envy are reaching out to you from your website.
I hope that Kate is getting a big present from you for taking over the helm while you play.
