The Father's Day Wrap-Up

Hopefully this finds all dads healthy, happy, and fulfilled. I spent yesterday at the zoo with my child. He was enthralled with the elephants, so much so that he wanted to have his very own stuffed elephant. The zoo “toy shop” had a range of animals that a helpful attendant would stuff (much like the build-a-bear workshop), so Jackson went through the entire process. When I asked him what he wanted to name it, he thought about it for a minute and said: “Penis!” Continue reading

The Random (Book) Update

Pete has been reading some interesting things lately, among them Joe Abercrombie’s The First Law trilogy, C.C. Finlay’s The Patriot Witch, and Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. All of them are great summer reads that bibliophiles should only miss at their peril. Continue reading

Female Characters, Point of View, and Pete

Pete attended a writer’s workshop this past weekend, wherein he learned that he’s great at plot, he’s a man of subtlety with male characters, but the female viewpoint continues to elude him. Weekend Caption Contest

This one oughtta keep you busy. What are these girls doing? Why do they feel the need to have their assault rifles so casually slung across their backs? Wherever they live, I’m torn whether to shudder in horror as to what would require such armament or squee with glee that the right to bear arms is so universal that even women do it when in a store. Continue reading

Buried in Revisions

I’m currently buried in grammar, plot, and character while I try to finish the second re-write of Alchemist. I’ve been, in the words of good friend Taylor Anderson, “writing my fool tail off” in an effort to prepare for an impromptu writing workshop that I’ll be attending next weekend. I intend to begin submissions again shortly after Continue reading

Star Wars: TOR

Bioware has released the first cinematic trailer for their upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. The trailer is incredibly well done, rivaling the best portions of the recently completed prequel trilogy. I’m already willing to pledge my lightsaber to the Sith! Continue reading
