Everything you need to know about Scott Pilgrim
First of all, go see the movie. If you don’t, in the words of my three year old, I will “take you to jail.” It’s every geek’s waking dream of being a musician, getting a girl, and having the ability … Continue reading

Go See District 9
A brutal, cautionary tale on the nature of humanity, District 9 holds a mirror to our collective psyche and asks tough questions about how we would treat alien visitors who were stranded on our planet. The action is chaotic and breathtaking, and the acting is worthy of academy-award buzz. This movie is not to be missed. Continue reading

Summer Movie Rankings
I’ve taken the time to rank the movies I’ve seen so far this year. While my previous review of District 9 strayed into fanboy territory, you might be surprised at what this summer’s list reveals. Continue reading
The Hangover
From the director of Old School, this is a great buddy comedy flick that is unapologetically R-rated in the tradition of the recent Judd Apatow flicks. Rather than a workman-like plot that is an excuse to string several obliquely related skits together, The Hangover features a mystery-in-reverse that while predictable, is still exciting enough to keep the film moving at a brisk pace. Continue reading

Terminator: Salvation
Terminator Salvation is a great popcorn action flick with some of the best sound in recent memory. While character development lags behind the immensity of the spectacle, the film’s aspirations of drama are lost in the cacophony of war between man and machine. Don’t let this deter you–this is possibly the most entertaining movie of the year so far. Continue reading

Star Trek
One thing is abundantly clear–the style of science fiction movies that appeal to the masses are not necessarily those that appeal to the die-hard science fiction fans. Those who have labored long under hope for a return to the original franchise will be disappointed with the liberties taken with the universe, while those who only peripherally care about Star Trek will be rewarded with a strong action flick that is full of humor, humanity, and explosions. Click through to read my spoiler-laden review. Continue reading
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Is the Wolverine origin story as flat as critics are saying? Do the viewers finally learn what’s behind Wolverine’s mysterious amnesia in the previous three X-Men movies? Do we get to spend enough time with fan favorites Deadpool and Gambit? Is X-Men Origins: Wolverine headed for blockbuster status? Continue reading

Caprica – The BSG Prequel
Teenage sex, violence, mob intrigue, and robotics intermingle in this near-future science fiction drama by the producers of Battlestar Galactica. Will Caprica satisfy the fans of BSG, or is this more of the same existential nose-picking that plagued the end of season four? Continue reading
Really? I mean, really?
The Sci Fi channel is changing its brand to “Sy Fy.” Why? To me, this is a fait accompli, because the network only has one good thing going for it, and that is the future “Caprica” pilot that is supposed … Continue reading
